Brief description of the First Strokes - 5 weeks training plan for beginners
Introduction to the properties of water, key safety skills, confidence-building, submergence, floating and breathing control. Teaching delivered through structured play with arm-bands and fins.
Establishing the core principle of the optimum swimming body position, balance and co-ordination exercises. Focus on breathing and leg kicks techniques. Plus diving exercises.
Continued focus on the core principle of the optimum swimming body position, balance and co-ordination in front-crawl and back-stroke with focus on arm movements.
Pupils repeatedly demonstrate crawl and back-stroke with established body position; introduction of breast-stroke arms to combine with kicking; focus on the basic bio-mechanics of all three strokes.
Advanced drills and bio-mechanics in crawl, back-stroke (body rotation) and breast-stroke to improve stroke efficiency and stamina. Introduction of the butterfly.
